Taykwa Tagamou Nation (TTN) strongly objects to the passage of Bill 5, the Protect Ontario by Unleashing Our Economy Act, 2025.

This legislation poses serious constitutional, environmental and legal risks. It disregards our Aboriginal and Treaty rights, undermines regulatory integrity, and opens the door to unaccountable, unchecked development across our Traditional Territory. Ontario cannot claim to pursue reconciliation while simultaneously removing the very safeguards that protect our people and our rights.

TTN is not opposed to development. Our Nation has co-led major mining, energy and infrastructure projects that help drive Ontario’s economy forward. We support responsible, inclusive development that upholds First Nations rights, provides long-term benefits for communities, and respects the land. This has only been possible through clear, stable regulatory processes and respectful partnerships.

Bill 5 fails on all those fronts.
